1. I chose the title "From Tadpole to Frog" and got 48 results. 1206 libraries worldwide have the book. Brookings Public Library is the first library listed. The call number is (Dewey) 597.8/9. I found 437 more records for this author. I clicked on the subject tadpole and found 932 more records were available. It also shows how to: cite the book which would be great for students; More like this (with the same title and author); subjects, abstracts, notes, vender, material type, document type, author and illustrator.
2. Other First Search Databasers--Wow! WorldCAT is in over 470 languages and records are contributed for over 100 countries from 1000 BC to the present! Some other features listed are: Articles first--has citations from over 16,000 journals, etc. Ebooks--but it says most of them aren't accessible due to individual licensing restrictions; GPO--US Government document which has citiation access to nearly 35 years worth of publications; ERIC--over 600 journals from the US Dept. of Ed.; Medline--useful for the serious medical researcher; The World Almanac--can search all resources at once or only one (nice!); ArchiveGrid (starting point for research done for historical projects) and Camio--95,000 images form prominent museum collections that have rights cleared for educational purposes. Nice to know since I teach art!
3. Discovery exercise part 2--For S.D., I got 764 results. I clicked on the title "A School of the Prairie". I tried clicking on the link next to Access for this title and it said, "Not found". I'm not sure why but I tried it for many others, too and all the results said the same things. After going through a few of the other blogger's posts, I see they were able to click an item and wonderful pictures would come up. I can see this would be great for our fourth grade class right now for their SD history projects. (that is if they can get the images to open!)

SD Library Challenge 6--Ebsco Ebooks
1. I did a search on Alzheimer's Disease and used "find any of my search terms" and got 50 results. Some of the titles may not be related to my search. I did a 'boolean phrase' search and got 49 results. Again for some of the last results, Alzheimers wasn't in the titles. I also did an advanced search with Alzheimers as "subj" (top line) AND disease NOT deaths. I got 11 results. Some searches brought up totally unrelated results again.
2. Constitution Day--I clicked on Visual Search and started typing Constitution. As I did, suggested phrases popped up with the word Constitution. I chose "Constitution and the United States". The results showed on the left side . I chose Constitutional History which listed 3 results. I then chose The Constitution of the United States, I clicked on the 'more' icon and I got a page that said "The Constitution of the United States of America" with an ebook full text. One good title would be "The Constitution of the United States of America, 1787." Another good title would be "Right to Religious Liberty: the Basic Guide to Religious Rights".
3. I put Nebraska as Publisher and Oklahoma (with 'subj') OR Nebraska (with 'subj') and got 50 results. This search can be a little frustrating but I see by using Publisher, all the titles are from a certain Nebraska publisher. I was a litte disappointed since I didn't see anything on Picasso or Guernica.

SD Library Challenge 5--Gale Virtual Reference Library
From the "Titles list", I clicked on Endangered Species. I think I will have my 6th graders do research on endangered species so they can practice using this. I will have them first describe the causes of endangerment. They will have to locate the article "Endangerment and it's Causes: an Overview," use the "Words to Know" list if they are stumped on a word. Then they will each choose from the list of endangered animals and listen to or download the MP3 since we don't have eReaders. (this really makes me want to get eReaders now). I really like how they highlight the words as it is read; that is very handy for the researcher. I also like the fact that you can view it as text or as a PDF so it looks like it's in book format.
I found the answer to "What foods have zinc in them" in the Mineral Deficiency: the Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health book. I typed the search words into the search box. The answer is: brewer's yeast, eggs, fish, meats, beans, mushrooms, nuts and seeds and whole grains. It really helps when searching through the article when they highlight the search words in red! Also, the listen feature worked very well.
I also commented on Haana's Blog on the Sirs Issues Researcher. It's interesting to see what other bloggers like about each of these resources.

SD Library Challenge 4--Proquest
I decided to do a search on "Guernica", since my art class will be learning about Picasso and this famous 'anti-war' painting. This Guernica search produced 1620 results. It gives an abstract of the article and then the full text. At the bottom, you can click on "cite" an it will give you the citation which would come in very handy for students. You can also narrow the search. I narrowed the search to "Guernica AND allegory". I got 70 results that were full text. I got 52 results when I changed the search to "peer reviewed". I also notice it will give you some help if your search produces 0 results. It will list suggested subjects to go along with it. One thing I really like is that the search terms are highlighted. A Guernica search via "Arts, Film and Music" subj. search gave 625 results. I narrowed it to magazines which gave 247 results. I also noticed that I had to dig more through the magazines before I found what I was looking for whereas when I was looking through just the scholarly journals, I found them faster. I like that it will show how many scholarly journals, magazines, trade journals, newspapers, etc. You can create an alert to have articles sent to you when new content is added. You can also save the search and it will be saved in "My Research" which would be really nice for anyone doing research.
I commented on Kermit's Crazy Kat Cousin's blog.
On the Publications tab, I did a search in Art Education since I teach art also. I clicked on 'view most recent issues' which brought up Jan. 2012. There were 10 results for that. Right away, an article caught my eye. It was called "We Turned Your World Upside Down: Contemporary Art Practices in the High School Classroom and Spaces Beyond. It was actually a very interesting article! I could also do a 'search within this publication" as well as browse for specific issues. I was impressed at all the Publications that are available and I plan on checking this site out again later for items of interest to me. I also plan on mentioning this to the staff since there are so many publications, I'm sure everyone could find something on here.
